Goodbye Sambo ... We'll miss you!
They grow
up so quickly these days, don’t they? They come to you young, bright eyed and
bushy tailed, looking like they wouldn’t know the sharp end of a razor, spend a
couple of years learning a thing or two, then leave looking … well … exactly the
same! Seriously, many of
the Thornleigh patrons will know Sambo well. He managed the Thornleigh store
with an enthusiasm that was infectious, while bursting with pride in being a
part of The Country Brewer team. We can only assume
that he was given beer in a bottle as a baby … his love for the hobby of brewing
beer (and the consequential drinking of same) was such a part of his life that
he pursued studies for commercial brewing via correspondence. His knowledge was
outstanding for someone so young and he very quickly earned the respect of his
fellow brewers. All that aside, it
didn’t stop us tormenting the hell out of him from time to time — sticky tape
over the alarm panel cover for him to discover the next morning was just a way
of seeing how Sam would cope under “real” pressure. Fear not - this bloke always
gave as good as he got - having a sense of humour about as twisted and deranged
as the rest of us, (which seems to be a prerequisite of any prospective store
manager or shop owner). What Sam claimed to be coffee in a cup, had to be a
joke! In December 2005,
after doing a day of work experience, Sam was offered a job as a brewer with
Independent Brewers located in Sydney’s south west, to put those hours of study
into practical use. We wish Sambo all
the success in his new career.
