Kitty in the Hole
Anyone who was at the Girraween store on the morning of Saturday the 29th of October would remember the terrible stench that was about at the front of our factory unit. Upon following my nose (and trail of flies) it was discovered that the obnoxious odour was the result of one poor unfortunate Tabby fulfilling the final part in the cycle of his life about 5 metres from the front door of the shop. Kitty could not longer be tolerated or ignored. Panic soon settled in when it was then realised Graham, Shawn or I would have the unfortunate yet necessary task of removal and burial of poor ol’ kitty
It was quickly agreed, due to years of smoking (filthy habit) and the proven fact that one does not use the sense of smell to its fullest whilst a smoker; Shawn had “volunteered” for the task of placing kitty into his final resting place. A reconnaissance
of the area was then taken by Mr Miles to establish his best course of action to
get the carcass into the ground, but within 2 meters of kitty, Shawn was trying
desperately to keep his breakfast in his stomach. (I was extremely thankful in
the knowledge, better him than us!)
For my part a quick trip home for the tools necessary for the task of digging kitties’ tomb. Upon returning the time was about 10am, temperatures outside nudging the low 30’s the stench was becoming unbearable! A suitable location was quickly selected, about 5 metres away and up wind of kitty. – An industrial grade mask with filters was called upon in order to perform the task as smoothly as possible. Now the straight forward part; Picking up kitty and getting him into the ground as soon as possible. Shawn took the simple approach first - grab cat by the tail and drag as quickly as possible into the ground. …Simple, right? Well let’s just say it would’ve been except that stink puss was not that keen on the idea of being buried… so much so, he was willing to sacrifice his tail to stay where he was! But the job was completed and as quickly as possible. With dead puss no longer stinking the shop up, it can be said, our rigor feline friend had provided Graham and I one of the biggest belly laughs for quite some time.-And best of all at Shawn’s expense!
