Irish whiskey

irish-whiskey.jpgIrish whiskey is whiskey that is made in Ireland.

The word "whiskey" is an Anglicisation of "uisce beatha/uisge beatha" a phrase from the Goidelic branch of languages (Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Manx) meaning "water of life".

Most Irish whiskey is distilled three times, while most Scotch whisky, is distilled twice.

Peat is rarely used in the malting process for Irish Whiskey giving it a smoother finish than some Scotch whisky that can display smoky, earthy overtones.
